An Original 27 X 41 One Sheet poster for the 1965 action-packed underwater Bond film “Thunderball” starring Sean Connery. The plot revolves around Bond searching for two NATO atomic bombs stolen by SPECTRE, which holds the world ransom and threaten to blow up the city of Miami if £100 million is not paid to them in diamonds. It’s interesting to note that Connery preformed many of the shark scenes himself. In the pool scene one of the sharks broke through the plexiglass and nearly bit Connery’s leg. He was only seconds away from being attacked. “Thunderball” at its time held all of the box office records –so popular that it was reported 1 out of every 4 people in the United States saw the film. For many viewers “Thunderball” was the first Bond film they had ever seen. In lieu of this United Artists decided to capitalize on the popularity of Bond by rereleasing “Dr. No” and “From Russia With Love” as a double feature alongside “Thunderball”. The word “Thunderball” comes from US soldiers’ description of the mushroom cloud seen during the testing of atomic bombs.  Producers thought this title was fitting considering this would be the result if SPECTRE ended up detonating the stolen bombs. The Bond films are the longest running movie franchise in cinematic history. Please note there were two Original versions of this poster issued to theaters one with Connery’s rocket pack inside the green border and the other outside the border. They are both Originals printed at the same time and are equally desirable amongst collectors. This is a clean example with only mild handling wear and small creases on the poster’s borders keep it from grading any higher.  Very Fine.
